History of GCCC
The vision for a local church started in the summer of 2001. Matthew Lee, Simon Hahn, and
Peter Cho, three local DC residents, felt the need for a church that could reach young adults
in the Washington DC area. Although this desire had been stirring prior to 2001, it wasn't
until July of that year that they began to actively seek God's direction and leading.
In time, God's confirmation for forming this community came. In the spring of 2002, the three
turned into a small group that also shared the same vision. On June 9, 2002, Great
Commission Community Church (GCCC) held its first official Sunday service in
Pentagon City, VA. During the next decade, GCCC steadily grew in size and activity,
attracting students, young adults, and families from diverse backgrounds. The Children and
Nursery Ministry also significantly expanded in 2011.
On March 18, 2012 GCCC transitioned from being an affiliate of the Christian & Missionary
Alliance, to becoming an official church of this denomination. It also celebrated its 10th
anniversary. In celebration and thanksgiving of these milestones, GCCC held a special Sunday Service, led by Pastor Stephen Kim. During this service, GCCC, as an official church, also installed its first three elders: Peter Cho, Andy Ho, and Bernard Kim. Click

As the GCCC family continues to grow, we hope to stay faithful to our original vision of serving those locally—in the DC metropolitan area—as well as globally. We invite you to join us.
